One free document from the social security body of your own country. It says you stay insured at home while you work here. With it, an inspection at the studio is a non-event. Without it, an inspector can stop you in the middle of an appointment.

Getting here and where to stay
- Staffelstrasse 8, 8045 Zürich → — open it in Google Maps. A short walk from Sihlcity, with supermarket, restaurants and shops.
- Tram 13 connects the city centre to Sihlcity in 15 minutes. By train, Zürich Giesshübel is two stops from the main station.
- Visionapartments Wolframplatz, one minute from the studio — comfortable and affordable, subject to availability and dates.
Your clients
- You arrive with your own appointments, confirmed before you book the flight, and we recommend asking for a deposit on each of them.
- You tattoo on your own account: if a client makes a complaint, it comes to you, not to the studio. That is what the booth agreement and the consent form your client signs both say.
- Age requirements and client consent: we go through the applicable rules with you before you confirm any appointment, and your clients sign the studio's consent form here, on the tablet.

What we need from you
- Your A1 certificate — the box at the top of this page tells you how to get it. You need it from your first working day, even for a two-day spot.
- Your dates and your passport details. The exact days you are coming, plus how many working days you have already had in Switzerland this year. That is what decides whether the canton has to be notified — and that notification we file ourselves. You get the confirmation as a PDF.
The rules behind those two, in one paragraph. With an EU or EFTA passport you work self-employed, with no work permit, up to 90 working days a year — counted across the whole of Switzerland, other studios included. British artists come under a separate agreement since December 2020, same procedure; which social security certificate the canton wants in that case we clarify with the Amt für Wirtschaft Zürich before you travel. Any other passport would need a work permit, which we do not apply for. Up to 8 working days a year nothing has to be filed. At an inspection, the notification confirmation, your A1 and the signed booth agreement have to be in the studio on paper — the printing is on us; if they are missing, the consequences can be a fine and an immediate stop to the work, in the middle of an appointment.
FAQ — Guest spot in Zurich
Does the studio provide clients? +
No. You bring your own and confirm the appointments before you book the flight. Ask for a deposit on each of them.
Does the studio pay a fee? +
No. A guest spot is a booth rental, not employment: you pay for the booth, you charge your clients yourself and you keep the full amount.
Which passport do I need for a guest spot in Zurich? +
EU, EFTA or the United Kingdom. Any other passport would require a work permit, which we do not apply for.
How many days can I work in Switzerland? +
Up to 90 working days per calendar year, counted across the whole of Switzerland, including days at other studios. Up to 8 working days a year no notification is required; above that we file it for you.
Which documents do I need to show during an inspection at the studio? +
