Butterfly Tattoo — light, alive, small to medium.
The butterfly is one of the most chosen motifs in fine line tattooing. At Sinkply, Aroa draws every butterfly as its own composition — adjusted to body area, size and how much shading you want. Single needle, quiet line work, clean for years. Most common placements: forearm, shoulder and collarbone. Studio at Staffelstrasse 8 in Zurich Wiedikon.

What a butterfly can mean
Few motifs carry as many personal stories as the butterfly — and that's also why it never really goes out of style. For some it stands for a phase that's over: a fresh start, a turning point, someone no longer here. For others it's simply a beautiful creature with a shape that sits well on skin. Both readings are equally valid. The meaning belongs to you, not to the reference.
We don't ask about the story on the day. We ask about size, placement and whether you want shading. The rest is yours to keep.
Custom or flash — what we recommend
Both work. If you have a specific reference in mind, bring it — Aroa draws a piece from it that fits your anatomy. If you're still deciding, scroll through the gallery above: every piece was tattooed in the studio and can serve as the starting point for your own butterfly.
We don't copy another artist's tattoo one-to-one — that piece belongs to someone else's story. A variation, an adaptation, a mix of several references: yes.
Your first tattoo?
A small butterfly on the forearm or collarbone is a common entry. The session is planned individually, the pain stays in the bearable range (2 — 3 out of 10), and healing is quiet. If you're not sure yet, read our first tattoo guide first.
Frequently asked
How big is a butterfly tattoo usually? +
Most butterfly pieces at Sinkply land between 3 and 8 cm wingspan. Below 2.5 cm the body becomes too small to draw clean detail in the wings or antennae. Larger pieces from 10 cm work beautifully on thigh, back or chest.
Which body areas work best for a butterfly? +
Forearm and shoulder are the most common — the shape of the butterfly follows the curve of the muscle. Collarbone, thigh and chest also work very well. We discuss placement on the day with a stencil test before any needle touches skin.
How much does a butterfly tattoo cost in Zurich? +
From around CHF 150 for 30 min · Exact price after sharing your idea on WhatsApp.
How long does the session take? +
The session is planned individually. We take our time during the consultation and discuss the schedule before any needle touches skin.
Custom design or flash from the catalogue? +
Both work. Most clients bring references and Aroa draws a unique composition on the day — fitted to your body and the chosen spot. If you pick an existing flash, small adjustments are always welcome. We don't copy another artist's tattoo one-to-one — adaptations and mixes of multiple references are fine.
